The Argentine picked up a muscle problem during Tottenham's 2-2 draw against Chelsea on Sunday.
He will now miss up to a month of action, according to football.london.
Romero is now set to miss several games over the coming weeks, including London derbies against West Ham and Fulham.
Antonio Conte will now have to give more game to either Clement Lenglet or Davinson Sanchez.
