Tottenham Hotspur set unwanted 143-year record after Atletico Madrid defeat

Prime Video Sport highlighted the scale of Tottenham’s poor run following the loss.

“Spurs have really lost six games in a row in all competitions for the first time in their 143-year history,” the account tweeted.

The statistic underlines just how dramatic the club’s recent downturn has been.

Tottenham, founded in 1882, had never previously suffered six consecutive defeats across all competitions.

The streak has piled pressure on the squad as the team continues to search for answers during a difficult stretch of the season.

Tottenham collapse 5-2 against Atletico Madrid in UCL last-16 clash

The latest setback came in the first leg of Tottenham’s Champions League round of 16 tie against Atletico Madrid at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano on March 10.

Atletico raced into an early lead as Tottenham’s defence struggled badly in the opening minutes. Goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky endured a nightmare start, with mistakes helping Atletico score three goals in the first 17 minutes before he was substituted.

By the time the dust settled, the Spurs had fallen 4-0 behind inside the opening half hour. Pedro Porro and Dominic Solanke pulled two goals back for the visitors, but Atletico ultimately secured a dominant 5-2 victory in the first leg.

The result leaves Tottenham needing a remarkable comeback in the second leg if they are to keep their Champions League campaign alive.
