KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Association of Theme Parks and Family Attractions (MATFA) has welcomed the government’s swift action against taxi touting at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), describing it as a vital step in protecting visitors and safeguarding the country’s reputation ahead of Visit Malaysia 2026.

MATFA president Tan Sri Richard Koh said the move signalled Malaysia’s commitment to ensuring the integrity, safety and trust of travellers at every stage of their journey.

“Tourism is a key pillar of Malaysia’s economy, and ensuring all visitors’ confidence is crucial,” Koh said in a statement.

He stressed that as Malaysia prepares for a surge of international arrivals in 2026, every aspect of travel must reflect professionalism and reliability.

Koh voiced strong support for Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing and his ministry in their efforts to strengthen safeguards across the tourism sector.

“Theme parks and family attractions nationwide are committed to offering safe, enjoyable and memorable experiences for tourists. We stand in solidarity with the government in ensuring every visitor feels protected and welcomed,” he added.

The statement came days after Transport Minister Anthony Loke announced that Road Transport Department (JPJ) officers had arrested a taxi tout at KLIA Terminal 2 for cheating a foreign tourist.

The tourist had been quoted RM60 for a trip but was later forced to pay more than RM800. Following Loke’s directive, JPJ tracked down the driver, arrested him and seized the vehicle. — September 26, 2025
