Kota Kinabalu: Shopping activities are a crucial component of Malaysia’s tourism industry.
From January to September 2024, tourist expenditure reached RM26.98 billion, a significant increase of 63 per cent compared to RM16.56 billion recorded during the same period in 2023, said Tourism Malaysia Senior Director Mohd Akbal Setia.
“This segment has become a key contributor to tourism revenue, representing 36.8 per cent of the total RM73.2 billion recorded for the period,” he said during the launch of “A Joyful Celebration” in conjunction with the National Sales Campaign – Malaysia Year-End Sales (MYES) 2024 at Imago Shopping Mall.
“Therefore, we are confident that these figures will continue to grow, further strengthening this segment’s development, especially as we reinstate the Malaysia Mega Sale Campaign in 2024,” he said.
