KUALA TERENGGANU: A toy, bicycle and electric scooter shop owner suffered losses of nearly RM1 million after his premises were destroyed in a fire.

Maya said she and 10 employees were inside the two-storey building when they detected smoke coming from the rear.

“I immediately checked the source of the smoke and discovered a fire near the women’s prayer room,” she said.

She instructed the employees to evacuate after making an emergency call as the smoke thickened.

The business owner, Mohd Azrol Azahar, 39, was managing a branch in Kuala Berang at the time.

Kuala Terengganu Fire and Rescue Station chief Thoyyibah Taib said they received an emergency call at 7.49 pm.

A total of 24 personnel with three fire engines from two stations were dispatched to the scene.

Firefighting operations lasted nearly half an hour, from 7.52 pm until 8.23 pm.

Thoyyibah said the fire involved a two-storey permanent children’s toy shop.

Approximately 50% of the lower floor was damaged in the blaze.
