Are Malaysian Toyota Hilux models also affected by similar issues?

Toyota Motor Corp is recalling 106,061 vehicles in the United States due to a potential brake fluid leak that could impair braking performance, increasing the risk of a crash. The recall, announced by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) on Tuesday, specifically affects certain 2024-2025 Tacoma four-wheel-drive models.

The issue stems from a potential design flaw where there is insufficient clearance between the rear brake hose and the wheel. This lack of space may allow mud, dirt, and other debris to accumulate in the area, potentially damaging the brake hose. Over time, this damage could lead to a brake fluid leak, which compromises braking ability and poses a significant safety risk.

Moreover, in response to the problem, Toyota will provide free repairs for affected vehicles. Dealerships will replace both rear brake hoses to address the issue and ensure the safety of drivers. The recall underscores the importance of maintaining proper brake functionality, as any reduction in braking efficiency can significantly increase the likelihood of an accident.

While this recall specifically concerns the Tacoma models in the U.S., it raises questions about whether similar concerns exist for vehicles outside the United States. Are Hilux models in Malaysia also impacted by the same issue, given that the Tacoma and Hilux share some design and component similarities?

Would Toyota be addressing similar concerns in other regions where these vehicles are sold? So far, Toyota Malaysia has not reported any anomalies in the local Hilux models or any other models for that matter so at least for now, it would seem that this brake fluid leak issue is affecting the North American market only.

For now, U.S. owners of 2024-2025 Tacoma four-wheel-drive models are being asked to contact their dealerships for assistance and ensure that their vehicles are inspected and repaired as necessary. It’s advisable for those who own similar models in other countries, such as the Hilux in Malaysia, to check with their local Toyota dealers for updates or recalls that might affect them too.
