A tractor driver was killed when his vehicle plunged 15 metres down a hillside near Balik Pulau, with firefighters extricating his body after a rescue operation.

BALIK PULAU: A tractor driver was killed when the tractor he was driving plunged down a hillside near the Teluk Bahang Chinese Cemetery along Jalan Teluk Bahang here today.

Fire and Rescue Department Operatoins Division assistant director John Sagun Francis said that the driver, Hor Beng Koon, 49, was pronounced dead on the scene after he was trapped in his vehicle following a 15-metre fall.

“We received a distress call at 1.45 pm and a team from Teluk Bahang Fire and Rescue Station rushed to the scene to discover a tractor that had plunged down the hillside as it was conducting agriculture work there.

“A man was stuck in the tractor and the firefighters used special equipment in the rescue operation, managing to extricate the victim at 2.16 pm,” he said in a statement today.

Medical officers at the scene confirmed the man’s death and his body was taken to Penang Hospital for autopsy, he added.
