
Kota Kinabalu: A 37-year-old trader was jailed two months for causing hurt to his brother over a misunderstanding.
Magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles handed the sentence to Roland Longpin who pleaded guilty. Roland had caused hurt to his brother Rayner Longpin, 33, by hitting him with a plastic chair on his head several times at 3pm on Jan 18 at the Gerai Sinalau Bakas in Jalan Sulaman, Telipok.
The offence under Section 323 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to a year, or a fine, or both, on conviction.
The court ordered Roland to serve the jail sentence from Thursday.
The court heard that the incident occurred while the brother was at the stall when Roland came and asked about the electricity bill arrears amounting to RM3,000 which caused the SESB staff in wanting to disconnect the electricity to Roland’s house.
Roland asked about the payment and accused Rayner of not paying the bill.
However, Rayner denied that he did not pay the bill and Roland took the plastic chair and hit the brother several times on his head which caused him to suffer injuries.
In another court, a 33-year-old man was jailed three months for trespassing into a worker’s rented room.
