A FATAL crash on the Jalan Renggam-Layang-Layang Kluang road yesterday has left one trader dead and 14 others injured.
The incident occurred at KM25 of the road at around 8pm, involving a Honda City and a Honda Stream multi-purpose vehicle.
Kluang District Police Chief, ACP Bahrin Mohd Noh, confirmed the death of 29-year-old trader Muhammad Amiruddin Kamalruzaman, who was driving the Honda City.
The collision also left several others injured, including the driver of the Honda Stream, a 35-year-old woman, and her eight passengers, aged between three and 21. The passengers in the Honda City ranged from one to 60 years old.
"Preliminary investigations reveal that the Honda Stream was travelling from Renggam towards Layang-Layang, while the Honda City was coming from the opposite direction," said ACP Bahrin in a statement.
"It appears that the Honda Stream lost control and veered into the opposite lane, resulting in a head-on collision with the Honda City."
Muhammad Amiruddin, who sustained severe injuries to his head and face, was rushed to the Enche' Besar Hajjah Khalsom Hospital (HEBHK) in Kluang, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The driver of the Honda Stream, also seriously injured, is receiving medical treatment at the same hospital.
The remaining passengers from both vehicles, suffering from head and body injuries, were also taken to HEBHK for treatment.
In a statement, Renggam Fire and Rescue Station Operations Commander, PBK I Abdul Rahim Razali, revealed that the Honda Stream driver was trapped in the wreckage and had to be freed using special extraction equipment.
"The other victims were rescued by members of the public before the arrival of emergency responders," he said.
A total of 10 firefighters from the Renggam and Layang-Layang fire stations were involved in the rescue efforts.
The tragic crash highlights the dangers of road accidents and the importance of safety precautions on Malaysia’s highways. The police investigation into the incident is ongoing. – April 1, 2025
