Traffic policeman dies as rider tries avoiding pothole

IN an attempt to avoid a pothole, a traffic policeman with the rank of corporal, who was riding pillion, died in an accident at Kilometre 35 of Jalan Kuala Berang near Ajil, today.

Muhammad Fakrullah Jamal, in his 30s, suffered serious injuries to his head and body in the accident at 4.10 am.

The victim, who was on duty at the Hulu Terengganu District Police Headquarters, died while receiving treatment at the Hulu Terengganu Hospital Emergency Unit here.

Hulu Terengganu District Police Chief, Superintendent Sharudin Abdul Wahab, said that at the time of the incident, Muhammad Fakrullah was on his way to work in Operation Samseng, not far from the location of the incident.

“The victim was riding pillion on a motorcycle with Hulu Terengganu Traffic Chief, Inspector Syam Suri Hamat.

“Upon arriving at the location of the incident, the motorcycle they were riding suddenly lost control and skidded after allegedly avoiding a pothole,” he said.

Sharudin said that both victims were rushed to the Hulu Terengganu Hospital, but Muhammad Fakrullah died while receiving treatment.

He said that Syam Suri, who was slightly injured, was receiving treatment as an outpatient at the same hospital. – March 6, 2026
