TAWAU: Two suspected drug traffickers who were arrested at the Tawau Airport (LTT) area with a total of 2,493.45 grammes of syabu last week, were charged in the Magistrate’s Court here on Thursday.

However, no plea was recorded from Leong Kong Wai, 44, and Revinson Ester Anak Mawat, 21, after the charges were read before Magistrate Don Stiwin Malanjum.

Both men were charged with trafficking the drugs at the LTT Arrival Hall area between 9.25pm and 10.15 PM on May 17, 2025.

This section provides for the death penalty or life imprisonment and whipping of not less than 12 strokes if the death penalty is not imposed.

The court set July 7 for mention date for the case, pending the chemistry report.

Both of them remain in custody without bail.

The prosecution was led by Deputy Public Prosecutor Shearil Aizad Murnizam, while the duo was not represented.

Earlier, media reports stated that the two suspects, from Perak and Sarawak respectively, were arrested for suspicious behaviour in the LTT area.

Both were said to have just arrived from Kuala Lumpur to Tawau on two separate commercial flights, and the drugs estimated to be worth RM87,000 were found hidden in the luggage of one of them.
