Kota Kinabalu: A 29-year-old woman was tentatively charged in the Magistrate’s Court here, Tuesday, with trafficking drugs.
Unemployed Turijah was accused of trafficking 50.13gm of syabu at 2.20pm on June 15 this year at a house in Kg Sembulan Lama here.
However, no plea was taken from Turijah, who appeared before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie, after the charge was read out to her.
The charge, under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, carries a punishment of either the death penalty or life in prison and whipping with a minimum of 15 strokes.
The prosecution applied for a new mention date while waiting for the chemist’s report and objected bail for Turijah as the charge has no provision for bail.
Stephanie fixed July 20 for mention and ordered Turijah to be further remanded.
In another case, two people were fined for engaging in gambling sessions.
Radhica Vivian and Eadmon Majalin were ordered to pay a fine of RM900 or two months’ jail each after they pleaded guilty separately before Magistrate Lovely Natasha Charles to committing the offence.
Radhica, 25, pleaded guilty to buying three pieces of illegal lottery tickets at 1pm on April 19 at a Sunday market, Donggongon town.
Eadmon also admitted to purchasing four illegal lottery slips at 12.30pm on March 16 at a five-foot-way of premises, in Putatan.
The court was informed by the prosecution that both Radhica and Eadmon were arrested by police separately for committing the offence.
They were charged under Section 9(1) of the Common Gaming House Act which carries a jail term of up to six months or fine of up to RM3,000, or both, on conviction.
