The body of the second fisherman reported missing after a boat overturned in the waters of Tanjung Segenting was found.

Batu Pahat maritime zone director, Maritime Commander Mohd Haniff Mohd Yusuf, announced that the body of 62-year-old Tan Hai Lian was discovered washed up on the shore of Pantai Koris, Senggarang, by local residents.

In a statement issued, Mohd Haniff confirmed that the body has been handed over to the police for further procedures. The third day of the search and rescue (SAR) operation, which started at 7 a.m., encompassed a search area of 129 nautical miles at sea and 104 nautical miles by aircraft to locate the missing fishermen.

The incident occurred on Friday, when four fishermen, aged between 43 and 63, were reported missing after their boat capsized approximately 6.8 nautical miles southwest of Tanjung Segenting. The capsizing was attributed to strong waves caused by severe weather conditions.

On the previous day, the body of the boat's skipper, 51-year-old Chiah Kah Chong, was found at 7 p.m. by another fisherman passing near the accident site.

In a separate incident, Mohd Haniff reported that the Johor Bahru Maritime Rescue Sub-Centre (MRSC) received information about a passenger who fell overboard from the MV Cas ferry. The incident occurred approximately 16 nautical miles off Parit Jawa, Muar.

The passenger, identified as 30-year-old Indonesian national Juli Afriko, reportedly fell into the sea around 3 p.m. while the MV Cas ferry was en route to Bengkalis, Indonesia.

Following this report, the Batu Pahat Maritime Zone dispatched a patrol boat to the location to initiate a SAR operation. The operation has been divided into nine sectors: six at sea and three in the air. These efforts involve the MI 171 aircraft from the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department and the AW 139 aircraft from the Royal Malaysia Police Air Operations Force.

Efforts to locate the remaining missing fishermen and the passenger from the MV Cas ferry are ongoing, with authorities working diligently to cover the extensive search areas. The local community and maritime authorities remain on high alert, coordinating closely to ensure any new developments are swiftly acted upon.

The tragedies underscore the dangers posed by harsh weather conditions and the critical importance of robust search and rescue operations in maritime incidents. The maritime authorities are urging all seafarers to exercise extreme caution and to stay informed about weather forecasts before embarking on their journeys.
