The heart-wrenching incident unfolded at a residence on Jalan Serdang Raya 1, Seri Kembangan, where a 20-year-old intellectually challenged woman met a tragic fate. The seven family members arrested in connection with her murder, hailing from the Klang Valley, comprise four men and three women, aged between 25 and 79. This shocking event has sent shockwaves through the community, prompting a closer examination of the circumstances leading to such a brutal act within a family setting.
Serdang police chief ACP AA Anbalagan provided insights into the distressing sequence of events. The authorities were alerted to the case at 12.12 pm by a woman who reported that her 20-year-old sister, holding an OKU card indicative of a person with a mental disability, had suffered a fatal assault within their family home. The catalyst for this tragedy was a disturbing incident where the victim scolded and pinched the two children of a family member—a two-year-old girl and a three-year-old boy.
As tensions escalated during the ensuing altercation, the intellectually challenged woman became the target of a vicious assault. She was mercilessly beaten with a long stick and subjected to repeated scalding with a hot iron. The severity of these injuries proved fatal, leading to her untimely demise. The victim, entrusted with the responsibility of babysitting the two children central to the conflict, now awaits a detailed autopsy at Sultan Idris Shah Hospital in Serdang to ascertain the exact cause of her death.
In response to this horrifying crime, four suspects have been remanded for seven days, starting from the day of their arrest, to aid in the investigation. They face charges under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. Concurrently, three other suspects, ranging in age from 25 to 79, were released on police bail. The authorities have issued a public appeal for information related to the case, urging anyone with details to contact the investigating officer ASP Rosnani at 018-2771866.
This tragic incident underscores the vulnerability of individuals with intellectual challenges and raises broader questions about the dynamics within families. It serves as a stark reminder of the pressing need for community awareness and sensitivity in addressing the complexities of mental health within domestic environments.
