The Ministry of Education (MoE) is currently conducting an internal investigation into a tragic incident involving a student in Kajang, Selangor. The student, who was critically injured after falling from the fifth floor of a building on Friday, sadly passed away yesterday.

Minister Fadhlina Sidek has called for a thorough investigation by the authorities to determine the exact cause of the incident, including the possibility of bullying. "I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and the school community. This is deeply distressing, particularly because it occurred at school. Safety remains our utmost priority, and we are committed to ensuring stringent safety measures in schools," she stated during a programme at Taman Puteri Gunung.

Fadhlina, who also serves as the Member of Parliament for Nibong Tebal, emphasized that the MoE has implemented support measures, including psychosocial counseling, to assist the victim’s family, friends, and the school community. She reiterated the ministry's dedication to tackling bullying issues comprehensively at all educational levels, highlighting the existing guidelines and regulations in place to address such incidents involving students.

The incident, which involved a 13-year-old male student, has shocked the local community. The student was critically injured after falling from the fifth floor of his school building and was immediately taken to Kajang Hospital. Unfortunately, despite receiving medical attention, he succumbed to his injuries early yesterday morning.

Kajang police chief ACP Naazron Abdul Yusof confirmed the student’s death at 2:30 am while receiving treatment at the hospital. The case has been classified as a sudden death and is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2000. This section of the act addresses the treatment and protection of children, ensuring that incidents like this are thoroughly examined.

In light of this tragic event, the Ministry of Education is not only focusing on the immediate investigation but also looking into long-term strategies to prevent such incidents in the future. This includes reinforcing the current safety protocols in schools and ensuring that all educational institutions adhere to strict safety guidelines.

Furthermore, the ministry is committed to raising awareness about bullying and its severe consequences. They are working on strengthening the support systems within schools to ensure that students feel safe and are encouraged to report any incidents of bullying or harassment.

The ministry's actions underscore the importance of creating a safe and nurturing environment for all students, where their well-being is a top priority. As investigations continue, the MoE hopes to uncover the truth behind this tragic incident and implement measures to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
