TWO young boys, aged 10 and 11, lost their lives in a tragic accident this morning when the bicycle they were riding was hit by a car on Jalan Sedaka Tengah.

The victims, Muhammad Izhar Adnan, 10, and his close friend Muhammad Zaid Haris Abdullah, 11, were pronounced dead at the scene around 9.15am.

According to a local resident, one of the boys was pedalling while the other rode pillion when the vehicle struck them.

Their devastated father, Adnan Saad, 49, recounted the heartbreaking sequence of events. “The two of them were very close… this morning they had roti canai together, and they ended up leaving together,” he said.

Adnan said his youngest son, Izhar, had first asked permission from his mother, Fatimah Senawi, 49, to go for breakfast at his best friend’s father’s roti canai stall, located about 500 metres from their home, around 8.30am.

Shortly after, Zaid’s father arrived at their house with the devastating news.

“My friend suggested we go to the scene to see what happened. I initially thought it might have been a minor accident. But when we arrived, I saw my son and his friend lying by the roadside, covered in blood, lifeless. At that moment, all I could say was, ‘Allah, my child,’ because I couldn’t speak,” he said, holding back tears.

Both boys were students at Sekolah Kebangsaan Dulang, with Izhar in Year Four and Zaid in Year Five. Their families described them as inseparable friends since Zaid and his family moved to the village.

Superintendent Mohd Hamizi Abdullah, district police chief, confirmed that the police received the report approximately ten minutes after the incident. The case is being investigated under Section 41 of the Road Transport Act 1987.

The bodies of the two children were sent to the Forensic Department at Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah (HSB) in Alor Setar for post-mortem examinations.

The tragedy has left the close-knit community in mourning, with residents calling for heightened awareness and road safety measures to prevent similar accidents in the future. - November 22, 2025
