The remains of a couple believed murdered in Merbok were buried last night, as a community mourns a family tragedy.
SUNGAI PETANI: The remains of a married couple believed to have been murdered in Kampung Belau, Merbok, were laid to rest at the Masjid Al-Atiq Muslim cemetery here last night.
Two Malaysian Armed Forces vehicles carrying the bodies of Zikri Abdul Rahman, 65, and his wife Suraya Man, 53, arrived at the mosque at 7 pm.
Their remains had been claimed by family from Hospital Sultanah Bahiyah in Alor Setar earlier.
Approximately 300 relatives and villagers attended the burial ceremony, which commenced after Maghrib prayers.
The couple’s only child, 24-year-old soldier Mohammad Shahmi, declined to be interviewed by reporters at the scene.
Media reports yesterday confirmed the bodies of three family members were found dead in tragic circumstances inside their home.
The remains of Suraya’s son, identified as the suspect in the case, were buried separately yesterday.
