The owner of a wire fence factory tragically passed away yesterday in Tanah Merah after being crushed by the iron gate on the premises. According to Supt Mohd Haki Hasbullah, the district police chief of Tanah Merah, the incident occurred around 3:30 pm while the 70-year-old owner was conducting an inspection of the perimeter fence and attempting to close the gate.
Reportedly, the gate's wheel unexpectedly dislodged from its track, causing the gate to overturn and fatally crush the proprietor. Mohd Haki described the incident, stating that the victim's entire body was trapped beneath the fallen gate, leading to his demise. Emergency services arrived at the scene promptly, but the victim was pronounced dead on-site.
Following a post-mortem examination, authorities determined the cause of death to be a severe head injury resulting from the crushing force of the gate. The tragic accident has sent shockwaves through the local community, highlighting the importance of safety measures in industrial settings.
In response to the incident, authorities are expected to conduct a thorough investigation to determine the exact circumstances that led to the gate malfunction. Additionally, workplace safety protocols and maintenance procedures are likely to be scrutinized to prevent similar accidents in the future.
The untimely demise of the factory owner serves as a poignant reminder of the risks associated with operating heavy machinery and the importance of adhering to safety guidelines at all times. It also underscores the need for employers to prioritize employee training and ensure that adequate safety measures are in place to protect workers from potential hazards.
As the community mourns the loss of the factory owner, efforts to raise awareness about workplace safety are likely to intensify, with stakeholders advocating for stricter regulations and enhanced safety protocols across industries. Ultimately, preventing accidents like this requires a collective effort from employers, employees, and regulatory bodies to create a culture of safety and vigilance in the workplace.
