Tragedy struck in the Kg Batu Gong low-cost housing estate, Padawan, as a 43-year-old Sarawak woman, known for selling homemade 'kueh,' lost her life in a horrifying incident of domestic violence. The assailant, identified as her unemployed husband, brutally attacked her during a dispute over money, leading to her demise. The Padawan district police chief, Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad, has confirmed the arrest of the middle-aged suspect, who is now under investigation for murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
The distressing event unfolded on the night of January 22 within the confines of their home when the husband demanded money from the victim. When she was unable to meet his demands, he unleashed a series of violent acts, repeatedly slapping her and attempting to strangle her. Following the harrowing assault, the traumatized victim sought refuge in a neighboring house, while the assailant fled the scene.
Unfortunately, the horror didn't end there. The next day, the victim collapsed, experiencing severe pain in her ear and neck area. Alarmed by her deteriorating condition, she confided in her sister, who promptly sought medical assistance. Tragically, medical personnel arriving at the scene confirmed the woman's death.
Initial investigations have revealed a history of violence in the relationship, with the husband having previously exhibited aggression towards his wife. It was disclosed that the victim had attempted to seek a divorce, underscoring the complexity and gravity of the domestic situation.
This heart-wrenching incident sheds light on the urgent need for societal awareness and intervention to combat domestic violence. Beyond the criminal investigation, it serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences that can arise within the confines of one's home. Efforts to address and prevent domestic violence must be intensified to ensure the safety and well-being of individuals facing such perilous situations.
