LILLE: A high-speed TGV train driver was killed and 27 people were injured in a collision with a truck in northern France.
The accident occurred at a level crossing between the towns of Bethune and Lens in the Pas-de-Calais region around 7:00 am.
Rail operator SNCF confirmed the incident and said services between Bethune and Lens would be suspended until at least late Tuesday.
Transport Minister Philippe Tabarot said he was heading to the scene with SNCF chief executive Jean Castex.
Neither the SNCF nor local authorities were able to provide immediate details on the circumstances of the crash.
Serious accidents involving France’s high-speed rail lines are rare compared to traditional railways.
