  • Avanti West Coast will operate services on the historic Settle to Carlisle line for the first time in over a decade during the first 14 days of next January.
  • This diversion is necessary because the West Coast Main Line (WCML) will be closed between Preston and Carlisle for the replacement of Clifton Bridge.
  • Avanti will deploy its bi-mode Evero trains for a shuttle service between Preston and Carlisle, as the Settle to Carlisle line is not electrified.

  • Passengers travelling to Scotland from major English cities are advised to use the East Coast Main Line, while rail replacement buses will serve Lancaster, Oxenholme, and Penrith.
