Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United are among the clubs striking major deals as the summer transfer window nears its final month.
Liverpool have signed Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt in a £79m deal having beaten off interest from Newcastle to secure his signature. The Magpies held firm in their valuation of Alexander Isak who has now requested to ‘explore his options’ away from the club with a move to Liverpool seemingly slipping away.
Manchester United have completed the signing of Bryan Mbeumo who joins Matheus Cunha in Ruben Amorim’s new-look attack though the manager is still hopeful of securing a No.9 before the start of the season. Marcus Rashford has completed a loan move to Barcelona while Jadon Sancho is drawing interest from Juventus as the club also focus on outgoings.
Elsewhere, Arsenal have completed the signing of Sporting’s Viktor Gyokeres, closing out a deal worth £63m for the forward. The Gunners have also confirmed the signing of Cristhian Mosquera in defence.
Meanwhile, Chelsea have their sights on a Dutch duo of Xavi Simons and centre-back Jorrel Hato.

Leeds have made their seventh summer signing by bringing in Brazilian goalkeeper Lucas Perri from Lyon for an initial €16m (£13.9m).
The fee, which could rise by a further €2m in add-ons, takes Leeds’ summer spending to around £75m as they bolster their squad in a bid to stay in the Premier League.
The 27-year-old joins from Lyon, who he helped reach the quarter-finals of the Europa League last season in a campaign when he kept 13 clean sheets, after goalkeeper was a problem position for Leeds last season, even as they won the Championship.

Could this really happen?
Foot Mercato in France are reporting that Liverpool have opened talks with Real Madrid winger Rodrygo.
The 24-year-old winger is out of favour under Xabi Alonso and could seek a move this summer.
Quite whether the Reds would want to spend big again, following Hugo Ekitike and Florian Wirtz’s arrivals to bolster the front line, is unclear.
L’Equipe also detailed how Rodrygo would “without a doubt” replace Luis Diaz, should the Colombian international leave this summer.

But, they remain interested in re-signing Reiss Nelson on loan.

Inside Arsenal’s move for Viktor Gyokeres - and why he will change the title race
19:20
,
Miguel Delaney
When Arsenal finally accelerated plans to get a striker this summer, they had one fixed line. That was not to go above £65m. Such a figure might make it sound like they weren’t that serious about a striker - and there have been some questions about the exact level of the talented Viktor Gyokeres - but then this wasn’t quite about getting the striker anymore. It was about options, and having enough to finally win the title.
This is the defining trait of Arsenal’s summer so far, which is that Mikel Arteta is determined to address the key flaws of last season.
Having claimed 89 points in 2023-24, Arsenal fell away because they didn’t have enough depth, with overuse ultimately leading to fitness issues, and not enough forward options. Their benches at the end of the season were often strikingly thin, resulting in the attack becoming overly dependent on Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka. That in turn made Arsenal easier to predict, which only accentuated their problems.

Arsenal complete Viktor Gyokeres signing

Flo Clifford
Arsenal have completed the signing of Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting, for a final fee of €63m (£55m) with a further €10m to potentially be paid in add-ons (totalling £64m).
The 27-year-old has signed a five-year contract.
The purchase marks the end of an 18-month hunt for a number-nine from Arsenal, who have been insistent on signing a goalscorer for the “here and now”.
Gyokeres’ arrival also marks the end of a hard period of negotiations with Sporting, who were insistent on more achievable add-ons. At one point, the deal dragged on and stalled over a potential add-on of €5m.

Newcastle United’s handling of the Alexander Isak transfer saga has been slammed by club legend Alan Shearer.
The former Newcastle striker says the club made themselves look “ridiculous” on Thursday for claiming that Isak was injured amid reports he wants to explore a move away from the club.
Newcastle released a statement on Thursday morning to say the Swede would miss the club’s pre-season tour of Asia due to a minor thigh problem.

Man Utd told Ollie Watkins is 'not for sale' after initial approach

Ciara Fearn
Manchester United have been firmly rebuffed by Aston Villa after an informal inquiry over a possible move for Ollie Watkins.
United made the inquiry on Thursday evening but were told that Watkins ‘is not for sale’.
Watkins is just one of a few strikers United have looked at along with others including Chelsea's Nicolas Jackson and RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko.
With a valuation of around £60m, Watkins is one of the cheaper options United are exploring and has proven Premier League quality.
If they do pursue a deal then it will be difficult to convince Villa to part ways with their man.

Arne Slot comments on Luis Diaz absence amid Bayern interest

Ciara Fearn
Liverpool left Luis Diaz out of their pre-season friendly against AC Milan amid uncertainty about his future as Bayern Munich continue their bid to sign the winger. Head coach Arne Slot decided it was best not to pick Diaz after a summer of interest in him and with the 28-year-old seemingly open to a move away from Anfield.
Bayern have been in persistent dialogue with Liverpool over the Colombian winger, even though the Premier League champions have maintained the former Porto player is not for sale.
Slot said: “He’s training really well with us but we’ve decided, for now, not to play him yet. I’m used to talking to most of my players on a regular basis. Lucho is training really well and we’ve decided he’s not playing at the moment. I cannot comment much more about that.”
There has also been interest from the Saudi Pro-League in Diaz, who Liverpool believe is worth more than €100m.

The Merseyside club are in talks with Bayern Munich about Aznou, who could cost around €9m.
Everton are considering the 19-year-old Morocco international in their search for another left-back to compete with Vitalii Mykolenko after they released the veteran Ashley Young.
Moyes had said he wanted to make nine or 10 signings this summer and so far Everton have bought three players.
Charly Alcaraz was bought from Flamengo for £12m, back-up goalkeeper Mark Travers arrived from Bournemouth for £4m and striker Thierno Barry came from Villarreal for £27m.

Manchester City set to re-sign James Trafford

Manchester City will re-sign James Trafford for £27m after the goalkeeper rejected Newcastle to return to his former club.
City, who sold the 22-year-old to Burnley two years ago, activated the matching rights clause they put in that deal when Newcastle agreed a fee with the promoted club.
And Trafford, a long-term target for Eddie Howe, decided against going to St James’ Park in favour of a move to the former Premier League champions.
Trafford will sign a five-year deal, with City possessing the option to extend it for a further season, and personal terms have been agreed.

Viktor Gyokeres finalises £63.8m Arsenal move and will undergo medical on Saturday

Ciara Fearn
Arsenal plan to fly Viktor Gyokeres to Singapore for a medical to finalise his blockbuster move from Sporting CP.
Sources tell The Independent that plans are in place for the Swedish striker to complete his transfer and join the Gunners’ pre-season tour.
Mikel Arteta’s side face AC Milan on Wednesday, which will come too soon for Gyokeres to feature, with the next friendly on Sunday against Newcastle.
Arsenal appear close to finalising details in a protracted transfer saga for Gyokeres, a player who could bring a more ruthless streak to their attack, and the final fee could eventually rise to £63.8m (€73.5m).
Gyokeres could be one of two new additions for Arsenal, with centre-back Cristhian Mosquera set to join.

Joe Gomez leaves pre-season tour injured to leave Liverpool with centre-back dilemma
16:50
,
Ciara Fearn
Joe Gomez has left Liverpool’s pre-season tour with an injury, leaving Arne Slot with just two fit senior centre-backs.
Gomez has an Achilles problem and while Liverpool do not believe it is serious, the Premier League champions sold Jarell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen last month and are yet to replace the England Under-21 international.
For now, Liverpool, who have retained an interest in Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi, only have captain Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate as specialist centre-backs. Midfielder Ryan Gravenberch and left-back Kostas Tsimikas both played in the centre of defence during Saturday’s 4-2 defeat to AC Milan in Hong Kong.
Gomez missed three months of last season with a hamstring problem and has had an injury-hit Liverpool career. Head coach Slot hopes the England international will be back soon, saying: “He was, of course, with us for the first part of the week, but he had some Achilles problems.
“We thought it was better to assess it back in England and for him to work on him to come back to the team, probably in more ideal circumstances for him than be part of the group that every time goes out. So we decided to let him go back to England. But we hope and expect to have him back soon.”
Slot also confirmed that striker Darwin Nunez missed the AC Milan game because of injury and not because of the possibility of a move away from Anfield.

Alexander Isak wants to explore options at other clubs and a transfer away from Newcastle United, potentially throwing Eddie Howe’s summer plans into chaos.
The 25-year-old was not included in last week's friendly defeat to Celtic due to "speculation", and has now not travelled to Singapore for pre-season due to a thigh injury.
And Newcastle have been made aware that Isak is keen to consider his future elsewhere.

Arsenal ramp up bid for Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze
16:10
,
Ciara Fearn
Arsenal are aiming to swiftly move to secure Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze once the deal for Sporting’s Viktor Gyokeres is complete.
The Independent understands the Swede is currently in London for his medical, allowing Arsenal to turn their attention to other targets.
Mikel Arteta‘s side are Eze's top choice, as has previously been reported by The Independent, and those close to the player are confident a deal will be done in the next few weeks.
Arsenal are hoping to agree a fee that comes to £60m, rather than the reported £68m clause, although on terms that are also amenable to Palace.
Although there has not yet been any formal contact between the two clubs, the suggestions are that both will be flexible, amid good relations between the two boardrooms.
