The transfer window has reached deadline day to enable transfers to be made ahead of the summer’s Club World Cup. The window closes at 7pm tonight, before re-opening on June 16 until September 1.
Arsenal hope to bring in Spanish midfielder Martin Zubimendi, amid reported interest from Real Madrid, and Mikel Arteta has sanctioned talks with RB Leipzig over striker Benjamin Sesko in their ongoing pursuit for a No 9.
Chelsea have been rebuffed in their efforts to sign Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens, and have also walked away from a potential deal for AC Milan and France No 1 Mike Maignan and will head to the Club World Cup with their current goalkeepers.
Manchester United have already secured Matheus Cunha from Wolves for £62.5m, and are negotiating with Brentford over Bryan Mbeumo with Viktor Gyokeres also on the list of wanted strikers. Captain Bruno Fernandes also provided a boost by turning down a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia.
Manchester City have made their first summer signing by completing a €37m (£31.6m) deal to sign Rayan Ait-Nouri from Wolves, while also agreeing a fee to sign AC Milan midfielder Tijjani Reijnders and Lyon’s Rayan Cherki.
Liverpool have also been busy putting in a club-record bid for Bayer Leverkusen's Florian Wirtz while goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher has left for Brentford. The Reds also wrapped up a deal to bring Jeremie Frimpong to Anfield by triggering his £29.5m release clause.

Mike Jones
West Ham United are still to make a decision on Michail Antonio’s future after a serious road traffic accident in December required the striker to undergo surgery.
A club statement release on Monday read: "As a long-serving, highly-respected player, and a much-loved member of the West Ham family, the club’s absolute priority at this time is to support Michail personally in his journey to resume playing at the highest level."
Antonio’s contract runs out on June 30th and the club added: “There will be no formal decision and announcement on his future until such time that it is considered right and appropriate.
“However, as his current contract is also due to expire on 30 June, for the purposes of the Premier League Retained List procedure at the end of the 2024/25 season, Michail will be listed as a free transfer.”
Lee Carsley ‘delighted’ for Liam Delap

Mike Jones
England Under-21s boss Lee Carsley insists he is not disappointed in Liam Delap’s decision to go to the Club World Cup with Chelsea rather than the European Under-21 Championship.
“I’m definitely not disappointed. I’m delighted for Liam and his family.
“It’s a brilliant thing for an English centre-forward to play in the Premier League at such a prestigious club like Chelsea.
“Hopefully, he’ll do really well there and push for the senior team. We’ll move on. We’ve moved on quite quickly.
“We’ve always known that two or three of the players could move to clubs that were playing in the Club World Cup.”
When does the first summer transfer window close before Club World Cup?
18:35
,
Mike Jones
The first transfer window of the summer is set to come to close as teams face a race against time to get deals over the line ahead of the Club World Cup.
This early-June mini window is a fresh alteration to summer transfer proceedings - an additional registration period created by Fifa which national associations could adopt if they had teams involved in the inaugural competition, which starts in the United States on June 14.

The Harry Kane dilemma Thomas Tuchel faces ahead of the World Cup
18:15
,
Richard Jolly
Harry Kane was already in his thirties, albeit by less than two weeks, when Thomas Tuchel agreed to pay €100m for him. Bayern Munich have since seen a return in the form of 82 goals in two seasons and if Tuchel need not worry how much resale value the striker has, he only needs to concern himself if Kane can keep going until a World Cup that ends just before his 33rd birthday.
The England captain has looked far further into the future, however. An admirer of Tom Brady, Kane has spoken of a desire to play into his forties. He admires Cristiano Ronaldo for his longevity and, at the age of 40, the Portugal captain has scored in both the Nations League semi-final and final in the last week. Can Kane follow in his footsteps?

Mamadou Sarr gave his thoughts on his switch from Strasbourg to Stamford Bridge.
“It’s simple. The dream is to win the Premier League and the Champions League with Chelsea,” declared the 19-year-old.
“I feel really good, it’s like a dream for me. Since I was young I dreamed of playing for a club like this. Chelsea are one of the biggest clubs in the world and I am very happy.
“For me, Chelsea is the best club in London, one of the best clubs in England. Chelsea have a good project in place for young players. The supporters, the club, it’s history and the stadium are all fantastic. It’s an iconic club with a full history.”
Dortmund in for Sancho
17:55
,
Mike Jones
Borussia Dortmund have asked to be kept in the loop regarding the future of Jadon Sancho.
Sancho has returned to Manchester United following his loan spell with Chelsea. The Blues decided not to take up their obligation to sign him permanently instead paying United £5m as a fee for refusing that option.
As such Sancho is back at Old Trafford for the time being but looks set to leave before the end of the window with Germany one of the more realistic options.
Sky Sports News’ Mark McAdam said: "Borussia Dortmund have asked to be kept in the loop with regards to Jadon Sancho.
“He had a very successful time at Dortmund before making the move to Man United, he also had a loan spell where he got to the Champions League final.
“We get the feeling his days at Old Trafford are coming to an end."
Sesko talks falter for Gunners
17:45
,
Mike Jones
One priority for Arsenal in this window is to bring in a striker who will hopefully take them to the Premier League title next season.
Their sights are on RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko though negotiations are slow and tough.
Talks have been ongoing for about a month with the German club wanting £70m and are not willing to drop lower than that.
When asked about his future last month, Sesko said: “We’ll see what happens. It’s open, anything can happen.”
Sesko had also received interest from two Saudi Arabian clubs but his preference is to move to the Premier League.
Martin Zubimendi nears Arsenal move

Mike Jones
Arsenal have their man!
At least according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein who reports that Martin Zubimendi will be heading to the Emirates in time for pre-season after the Gunners and Real Sociedad have completed, and signed, a deal for his transfer.
There were rumours about Real Madrid possibly hijacking the move at the last minute but Ornstein says they were never actively pursuing a move for the midfielder.
Confirmation to come but this one looks very likely. Arsenal made Zubimendi one of their priorities and they could secure him by today’s deadline.

Grealish to move abroad?
17:25
,
Mike Jones
Jack Grealish’s time as a Manchester City player looks to be coming to an end this summer.
There are rumours, substantial ones at that, that the winger will not be included in City’s squad for the Club World Cup. His game time has dropped as well this season and these are all signs he could be on the way out.
With Grealish keen to push for a place in England’s World Cup squad he wants regular time on the pitch and may need to leave the Premier League to get some.
The Sun report that Bayer Leverkusen are interested in bringing in the 29-year-old as a potential replacement for Florian Wirtz.
Wirtz seems sure to move to Liverpool once those negotiations are finalised and new Leverkusen boss, Erik ten Hag, is keen on Grealish.
According to the report, Man City would be asking just £40m for Grealish and Grealish is said to be open to moving on from City.

Could Spurs join Bryan Mbeumo chase?
16:55
,
Mike Jones
Bryan Mbeumo has already been the subject of a bid from Manchester United this summer - but could Tottenham emerge as suitors for the Brentford forward?
With Thomas Frank seemingly the top choice at Spurs to succeed Ange Postecoglou, the Mirror suggest that the manager may be keen to take Mbeumo with him across London if appointed.
Manchester United are considering making a second offer for Bryan Mbeumo but will have to raise their bid significantly to tempt Brentford to sell the forward.
United made a first approach of £45m plus a further £10m in add-ons for the 25-year-old, but it was not close to Brentford’s valuation of the attacker, who is priced in excess of £60m.

16:45
,
Mike Jones
Borussia Dortmund have rejected the initial offer from Chelsea for winger Jamie Gittens.
According to a Sky Sports report, the Blues bid an initial €35m (£29.5m) which was rejected by Borussia Dortmund.
Dortmund instead want closer to €50-60m (£42-£50m) for the 20-year-old.
Chelsea are said to be preparing a second bid which will be closer in line to Dortmund’s valuation of €50.

Will Chelsea get Gittens before the deadline?
16:37

The Blues, however, have not given up on trying to sign Jamie Gittens before 7pm deadline.
Talks are ongoing with the German side wanting between £60-70m.
Reporters in Germany say they could be convinced to settles for £55m.

16:05
,
Richard Jolly
Manchester United cut their wage bill by £20m for the third quarter of the financial year which they believe will help them pass Financial Fair Play and fund Ruben Amorim’s summer spending spree.
Co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s cost-cutting meant more than 250 staff lost their jobs – with a further 200 redundancies to follow – as United paid staff £71.2m for the first three months of 2025, down from over £91m a year earlier.

Mike Jones
Arsenal fans rejoice!
Benjamin Sesko is adamant that he would prefer a move to the Premier League over switching to the Saudi Pro League.
The forward is a prime target for Mikel Arteta’s side and negotiations are ongoing.

He said: "Don't panic, the deal is still on between RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko and Arsenal.

"So Ekitike will not play in the Club World Cup for Chelsea - but talks are ongoing.
"Frankfurt are demanding 100m euros (£84.5m) and nothing else, otherwise nothing will happen this summer - this is the price Chelsea or other clubs have to pay.”

Now, with another manager sacked after a reign of 18 months to two years, some would say the comment has a different pertinence.
