The final week of the January transfer window arrives with Premier League clubs making some late additions before the business end of the season.

Tottenham looked poised for a shock swoop after it emerged that they were plotting a deal for Liverpool stalwart Andy Robertson, whose contract is up at the end of the season. After losing his place to Milos Kerkez, the Reds have blocked a premature exit for the 31-year-old citing the need of his services for the remainder of the season.

A former Liverpool full-back, Trent Alexander-Arnold, who has struggled at Real Madrid so far, could be a future target for Man City, it has been reported, though any return to the Premier League looks premature with the England international determined to fight for his place.

Elsewhere, Premier League leaders Arsenal are plotting a bid for Atletico Madrid star Julian Alvarez, after Ethan Nwaneri completed his loan move to Marseille, while Chelsea are reportedly targeting a loan move for Nottingham Forest midfielder Douglas Luiz alongside trying to seal a deal for promising French defender Jeremy Jacquet.

Rogers is under contract at Villa until 2031 so any move would cost a lot for Chelsea.

Arsenal must beware of anti-football’s perils after succumbing to Man United magic

15:36 , Will Castle

Arsenal’s first home loss of the season came with a sense of poetic justice. Two outright worldies had proved the difference between another Gunners victory via set piece debauchery, and defeat. Anti-football was beaten by its antithesis: joga bonito.

Mikel Arteta’s side were the architects of their own downfall against a Manchester United side in the midst of a revival. Having dominated the first half an hour and taken a deserved lead, albeit through an own goal, the league leaders capitulated in a seven-minute spell that saw Bryan Mbeumo gifted two gilt-edged chances. He took the second one.

Beto's move collapses

15:24 , Mike Jones

Everton striker Beto’s move to Fenerbache has collapsed.

The Portuguese had been earmarked as a replacement for Youssef En-Nesyri, who is in talks with Juventus, and his agent was spotted in Istanbul this week.

Everton demanded a fee of €20m (£17.3m) which has led Fenerbahce to move onto other targets.

15:12 , Mike Jones

Fulham have contacted PSV Eindhoven with a bid worth £28m for striker Ricardo Pepi.

The PSV striker’s contract runs until 2030 but PSV are considering Fulham’s bid.

Palace will only sell Mateta on permanent move

14:31 , Mike Jones

Crystal Palace are only willing to sanction a permanent exit for Jean-Philippe Mateta in this transfer window.

The Eagles are open to selling the French international if his £35m valuation is met and they can find a suitable replacement.

But, the club are not actively looking to sell their top scorer.

Contract negotiations between Mateta and the club have stalled meaning they would have to consider serious offers. Mateta's contract expires at the end of the 2026/27 season.

Palace are unwilling to entertain any loan options unless there is a permanent element attached.

How Patrick Dorgu’s reincarnation is spearheading Man United’s revival

14:13 , Will Castle

There’s an air of Ole Gunnar Solsjkaer to the beginning of this latest interim era at Manchester United. So much has been talked about the club’s missing “DNA”, whatever that may consist of.

But under the guidance of Michael Carrick, United are winning big games again - something that historically reflects “The Manchester United Way” - and just like under Solskjaer, a player reborn is at the heart of things.

With Solskjaer, that was a 21-year-old Marcus Rashford, revitalised after being misused out wide by Jose Mourinho. With Carrick, it’s Patrick Dorgu.

Fulham must fight to keep Wilson, says Silva

14:03 , Mike Jones

Fulham manager Marco Silva warned the club must do everything they can to keep Harry Wilson after his eighth Premier League goal of the season beat Brighton.

"We are in the fight, we are trying to keep him," said Silva. "If you ask me if it's going to be easy, I say it's not going to be easy.

"The more he scores, many more clubs are going to be around him. This is football business. When a player goes to the end of his contract, this kind of thing is going to happen.

"I know he's happy in our club and how much he's enjoying the moment. It's up to the club to do the maximum to keep him."

Cole Palmer 'untouchable' amid Man Utd links

13:54 , Mike Jones

Shock links with Man United emerged around Cole Palmer this week, with the Manchester-born forward reportedly homesick.

But The Telegraph claims Palmer is part of a new group of “untouchables” at Chelsea, along with skipper Reece James and midfielder Moises Caicedo.

Speaking ahead of the clash with Crystal Palace, boss Liam Rosenior was asked about Palmer and said: “I’ve had numerous conversations with Cole and he seems very, very happy to be here. He is very, very happy to be here.

“He’s a huge part of our plans in the long term. He’s an outstanding player. Every player goes through difficult moments in their careers in terms of injury. I don’t think it’s any reflection on his qualities. He’s an outstanding footballer.”

West Ham agree deal over Paqueta

13:44 , Mike Jones

West Ham United have verbally agreed a deal for Flamengo to sign Lucas Paqueta.

The £35.8m (€41.25m) transfer will be formalised in the next 24 hours and Paqueta will join Flamengo straight away.

That’s according to Sky Sports.

Paqueta had wanted to leave England to return to his home country of Brazil and now it seems as though the move is happening.

Nuno Espirito Santo said that Paqueta was the best player at the club so for the Hammers to let him leave it will be a blow to West Ham’s hopes of avoiding relegation.

Fabian Hurzeler reveals defender could leave on loan

13:36 , Mike Jones

Fabian Hurzeler admitted Diego Coppola could leave Brighton on loan during the transfer window to boost the defender's hopes of being selected for Italy at this summer's World Cup - if they qualify.

"It's a 50-50 situation," Hurzeler said. "Copps might be one player but we really enjoy working with him.

"There's a World Cup upcoming but I'm quite sure in the future he will be a big player for us. But we have to analyse what is best for the club and the individual development for the player."

Sean Dyche responds to Douglas Luiz to Chelsea speculation

13:27 , Mike Jones

Nottingham Forest boss Sean Dyche was coy on whether on-loan midfielder Douglas Luiz could be heading to Chelsea.

The Brazilian is on loan at the City Ground from Juventus but has struggled for game time under Dyche due to injury and also perhaps because the deal turns permanent if certain criteria is met.

Reports from west London suggest Chelsea are lining up a swoop this month, but Dyche did not say much.

"He is a very good player and I said when we played him in Europe (before Christmas) we probably rushed him back, but because of his experience he has used that wisely to be back," he said.

"It doesn't surprise me there is interest from other clubs in good players. That's the nature of the business.

"It's a doubled-edged sword. You sort of want people interested in your players, that means they are doing a good job and are good players, but you don't because you don't want them coming knocking on the door.”

"I won't roll out the red carpet for Buonanotte" says Farke

13:18 , Mike Jones

Facundo Buonanotte has been told by Leeds boss Daniel Farke that there will be no easy route into his starting line-up.

Leeds' summer move for the Brighton midfielder was hijacked by Chelsea, but his loan spell at Stamford Bridge was cut short earlier this month to allow him to join Leeds for the rest of the season.

Farke said: "Facundo is a very young, very talented player, otherwise you don't earn caps for Argentina's national team. He's a very skilful player, who has this special creativity that is quite rare at the top level.

"There are many reasons we wanted him because he has several skills we were missing a little bit. But I'm tempted not to praise him too much because he'll think he's already Lionel Messi.”

The 29-year-old has travelled to Amsterdam to complete a medical but the deal is on hold until the details over his Arsenal departure are finalised, report Sky Sports.

If Ajax get the green light, they will finalise a six-month contract, with Zinchenko’s long-term future then decided in the summer.

Kobbie Mainoo is Man United’s future again – and he has Michael Carrick to thank

11:38 , Richard Jolly

The beginning of the end for one, a new beginning for another. Casemiro and Kobbie Mainoo were not Manchester United’s midfield double act for most of this season – not when Ruben Amorim would not start the latter in the Premier League – and will not be for the long term.

Not when the Brazilian confirmed he will go when his contract expires at the end of the season.

But then, until Amorim’s sacking, it seemed that Mainoo may have been exiting earlier. There were reasons for him to leave on loan, with Napoli apparently interested.

Alexander-Arnold NOT told to leave Real Madrid

11:30 , Mike Jones

Reports in Spain suggested that Trent Alexander-Arnold had been told by new boss Alvaro Arbelao to find a new club in the summer but the Daily Mail are reporting that is NOT the case.

The 27-year-old has had an underwhelming, injury-interrupted campaign at the Bernabeu so far but retained the backing of ex-manager Xabi Alonso.

Spanish outlet El Nacional claimed that had changed under Arbeloa, who saw the ex-Liverpool full-back as surplus to requirements, but the Mail is adamant there’s no truth in that claim.

Former West Ham and Besiktas full-back Masuaku joined the Black Cats on a free transfer last summer as head coach Regis Le Bris reshaped his squad for life in the Premier League, but he has made only four senior appearances for the club to date.
