The summer transfer window is nearing its end with the ongoing saga surrounding Newcastle’s Alexander Isak still the dominant story as the striker pushes again for a move to Liverpool.
The Premier League champions have already had bids knocked back for Isak in this window, with the wantaway forward making clear he has no desire to remain at Newcastle and excluded from the squad. The Tyneside club are holding firm, though - but might their bid to Wolves for Jorgan Strand Larsen be an indication that they are expecting a fresh approach for their current first-choice centre forward.
Elsewhere, Chelsea’s summer-long pursuit of Alejandro Garnacho may be nearing an end with a deal seemingly close with Manchester United for the winger. Xavi Simons had long been on the club’s radar, too, but the RB Leipzig now appears likelier to head to Tottenham - in need of an alternative addition after being beaten to Eberechi Eze by rivals Arsenal and having found a move for Morgan Rogers difficult to progress.
Mikel Arteta appears to have identified another one-time Spurs target as a possible defensive addition, with Piero Hincapie linked with a move to north London. With Manchester United perhaps reigniting their interest in Carlos Baleba, and plenty of deals to be done all around Europe, a hectic final few days of the window could be in store...

Alan Shearer’s problem with Alexander Isak and why it goes beyond Newcastle loyalties
14:37
,
Will Castle
When Alan Shearer left Blackburn Rovers in 1995 to secure a world-record transfer to his boyhood club, he did not have to go on strike.
“I did sign a new contract the year before I left, but I knew the relationship I had with Blackburn that if I ever wanted to leave, then that was the scenario.”
He had the word of Rovers owner Jack Walker and hence when the opportunity to move to Newcastle – or Manchester United – arose, Shearer was allowed to make the jump.
Three decades on, such an amicable exit involving the Magpies and a record transfer fee has not occurred.

13:36
,
Mike Jones
The Telegraph say that Chelsea are monitoring the situation with Alexander Isak and are reluctant to finalis Nicolas Jackson’s move until it is resolved.
Bayern Munich are interested in Jackson and Christopher Nkunku is going to AC Milan.
Chelsea believe that if Isak isn’t sold then Newcastle or Liverpool could come in for Jackson very late in the window and want to keep options on the table.
Nkunku’s sale means the Blues are better placed to wait out before committing to Jackson’s sale.

How Nkunku deal will affect Garnacho move

Chelsea and Garnacho have been linked for most of the summer but the Blues have been prioritising outgoings before pulling the trigger on trying to sign the United winger.
With Nkunku possibly leaving for around £36-38m that would give the London side the funds to pursue Garnacho who they feel is worth £30m.
Manchester United want £50m so compromises would be needed but Garnacho to Chelsea now seem more of a possibility.

Why a Tottenham move for Kobbie Mainoo is unlikely
10:53
,
Miguel Delaney
Tottenham are trying to sign two attacking midfielders from a shortlist of five names as they seek to bolster their options in the final days of a frantic transfer window.
Aston Villa's Morgan Rogers remains the ideal signing, but the difficulty in doing that deal means the Spurs hierarchy are also looking at West Ham United's Lucas Paqueta, Leipzig's Xavi Simons, Atalanta's Ademola Lookman and Monaco's Maghnes Akliouche.
Elsewhere, Man United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo might have also been considered but, if he is to leave, there is a preference for him to move on loan abroad.
