KOTA KINABALU: Sabah is developing a Sabah Sustainable Transport Master Plan (SSTMP) to address rising traffic congestion and guide future transport development, said Deputy Chief Minister III Datuk Ewon Benedick.
He said the plan will integrate land, sea and river transport while addressing rapid urbanisation and increasing private vehicle use.
“The state government is also strengthening public transport in Kota Kinabalu through the BAS.MY programme… aimed at reducing reliance on private vehicles and easing congestion,” he said.
Ewon added that a feasibility study for the proposed Trans-Borneo Railway is underway to improve connectivity, reduce road dependence and support economic growth.
