The almost constant disruptions to the LRT service have resulted in tons of complaints from commuters who have to face the issues on a daily basis.
With no apparent long term solutions, it appeared as if it was just something that we would have to learn to deal with and get used to.
However, it seems like change is finally coming.
Newly appointed transport Minister Anthony Loke shared yesterday (December 5) that he had gone to take the LRT during rush hour in order to experience what the rakyat felt on a daily basis.
In a social media post, Loke wrote, “In the evening, I spent 2 hours experiencing the service of the LRT Kelana Jaya line during peak hours which was 5pm to 7pm.”
“The situation is quite crowded in the train and of course uncomfortable for the passengers.”
He also explained that he didn’t notify Prasarana or the media because he wanted to experience the real situation himself just like what ordinary commuters have to go through every day.
“I understand the difficulties faced by LRT passengers. I will hold a meeting with Prasarana’s top management this week as well to discuss directions and ways to improve our public transport services,” he explained.
A true representative of the people
His post has gone viral with many Malaysians praising him for immediately looking into what appeared to be an unsolvable issue.
“These kinds of spot-checks should be what every Minister does to the agencies under them. Unannounced and without any help. Only then will you see the reality of the rakyat’s day to day life.”
Another said, “The best way to clock in. I salute you Anthony Loke.”
Meanwhile, some users who praised him for his efforts told him to also try taking the LRT during the morning peak hours.
“Evening peak is normally a bit spread out, but morning peak is quite sharp and crazy,” added a user.
