Yesterday (Feb 23), a blind man was killed when he was run over by a LRT train after he fell on the tracks at the Titiwangsa station.

Following the incident, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said safety features at all Light Rail Transit (LRT) stations will be improved following the accident.

According to Loke, the Transport Ministry and Prasarana Malaysia Bhd are conducting a thorough investigation into the incident.

“Prasarana will review and enhance safety measures at all stations, particularly facilities for persons with disabilities.”

As part of immediate measures, Loke said Prasarana will install smart CCTVs capable of detecting risky behaviour.

“In the long term, Prasarana plans to install Platform Screen Doors (PSD) on all LRT lines to enhance passenger safety,” he said in a Facebook post.

Meanwhile, passengers who require assistance at the stations, including persons with disabilities, are advised to contact the Prasarana and police officers at the station to receive the assistance needed.

Loke also extended the ministry’s condolences to the victim’s family and those affected by the incident while describing the tragedy as deeply saddening.

“The safety and well-being of passengers are always our top priorities. The government is committed to ensuring a safer, more inclusive, and user-friendly public transportation system for the benefit of all Malaysians.”
