The Transport Ministry will no longer allow special vehicle registration numbers (NPK) to be issued or sold for the benefit of any company, individual, or NGO.
Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Hasbi Habibollah said during a Dewan Rakyat Q&A session that the move follows a Cabinet decision made back in 2022, according to Berita Harian.

When asked about the guidelines and criteria used by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) in approving special plate series (NPK), Hasbi said the Transport Ministry’s current policy (barring the issuance and sale of these plates to NGOs or private companies) remains in effect, based on a Cabinet decision made on August 17, 2022.
“This includes when it’s done for business purposes that generate profit,” he said.

Regarding revenue from exclusive registration numbers (NPI), he said RM110,069,150 has been collected since the initiative was launched in 2023.
“People can now bid for NPI numbers through JPJeBid, and the money goes into the Federal Consolidated Fund. Part of it is used for programmes that benefit the public,” he added.
Responding to a follow-up question about problems with JPJeBid, Hasbi said the ministry has fixed many of the technical issues that used to affect the number plate bidding system.
Still, he admitted that a few minor glitches are still happening.
“To be honest, in the early days, there were indeed many problems. Issues like login failures or users getting bumped from their bidding turn at the last minute. But thankfully, most of those issues have been sorted out. There are still some hiccups, but nothing as serious or widespread as before,” he said.
