A tree fell in Gurdev Nagar early on Tuesday morning, which further uprooted multiple electricity poles, leaving wires strewn across the road and causing traffic chaos in the busy residential pocket.

The incident not only disrupted vehicular movement but also snapped power supply to several adjoining lanes, adding to residents’ woes.

The fallen poles blocked the main stretch near the water tank, forcing commuters to take detours. The motorists struggled to navigate around the fallen poles while pedestrians were seen carefully stepping over dangling wires.

“It was a frightening sight as the tree came crashing down with a loud thud, pulling the poles along with it. Since then, traffic has been moving at a snail’s pace,” said Ravinder Singh, a resident of Gurdev Nagar.

Local shopkeepers complained of business loss as power remained cut off for hours.

“We had customers waiting but could not operate billing machines or lights. The authorities must act faster in such emergencies,” remarked Sunita Arora, who runs a grocery store in the area.

Residents also raised concerns about safety hazards. “Children use the stretch daily to visit nearby parks. With wires hanging loose, it is risky. The PSPCL should immediately secure the site,” said Harpreet Kaur, a homemaker.

Broken branches and debris lay scattered, with locals pitching in to clear the path. “The tree fell down and its impact has been severe. We need stronger infrastructure to withstand such emergencies,” observed Rajesh Kumar, a commuter who was caught in the jam.

Officials from PSPCL confirmed that restoration work was underway.
