Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], June 27 (ANI): Tremors were felt in Srinagar and other parts of Jammu and Kashmir after a 6.2 magnitude earthquake struck Afghanistan on Saturday evening, according to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS).

As per NCS data posted on X, the earthquake occurred at 19:04:51 IST with its epicentre located at latitude 36.442 North and longitude 70.672 East in Afghanistan. The quake had a depth of 215 kilometres. The NCS stated that the earthquake originated in Afghanistan and tremors were felt across parts of the northern region, including Jammu and Kashmir.

Imtiyaz Ahmed, a local in Srinagar, said he felt the tremors while indoors.

"An earthquake struck. I was sitting on a chair inside. The chair shook... Thankfully, there is no damage in this area so far. I don't know what might happen next," he told ANI.

Another resident, Dais Waheed, said the tremors were brief.

"We were coming back from a practice when we felt a slight earthquake, and we got a bit startled. But it stopped after just a couple of tremors," he told ANI. (ANI)
