Tributes paid to British TV veteran and Doctor Who star who died aged 93

  • Veteran British actor Patrick Godfrey, known for his roles in Doctor Who, Les Misérables, and as Leonardo da Vinci in the film Ever After, has died at the age of 93.
  • His agency, Markham, Froggatt & Irwin, confirmed his peaceful passing at home on Thursday, 4 June, surrounded by his family.
  • Godfrey's extensive 70-year career included appearances in numerous films such as A Room with a View and The Remains of the Day, alongside TV series like Z-Cars and His Dark Materials.
  • A prolific stage actor, he frequently performed at the National Theatre and on the West End, starring in productions including The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby and The Importance of Being Earnest.
  • Tributes poured in from colleagues and fans, with American playwright Bill Rosenfield describing him as a “wonderful man, a fine actor and a great friend”.
