A doctor in Penang, who was arrested last month for alleged indecent behavior, has been taken into custody again after another woman came forward with a similar complaint dating back to 2023.

According to authorities, the 30-year-old woman reported that she had encountered the same doctor at a private clinic in Pulau Tikus two years ago, where she was allegedly deceived into undressing during a medical consultation. She lodged a police report late February last month, leading to the arrest of the 43-year-old suspect at the North-East District Police Headquarters.

North-East district deputy police chief Supt Lee Swee Sake revealed that the incident occurred on June 28, 2023, when the woman visited the clinic to collect her blood test results. During the consultation, the doctor allegedly instructed her to remove her clothing and run on the spot under the pretext of a medical examination. Additionally, he is suspected of taking photos of her body using a mobile phone.

Following the latest report, the doctor has been remanded for four days, from March 7 to March 10, as authorities continue their investigation. The case is being probed under Section 509 of the Penal Code, which deals with actions intended to insult a person’s modesty, carrying a maximum sentence of five years in prison, a fine, or both. He is also being investigated under Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955.

This development follows his previous arrest on February 26 after a separate complaint surfaced. The medical officer had been taken into custody at a hospital in Penang and was later released on police bail on March 2.

Penang State Health Department (JKNPP) director Datuk Dr. Fazilah Shaik Allaudin has assured full cooperation with the police, emphasizing that they take such cases seriously and will not tolerate any misconduct by medical professionals.

The case has raised concerns over professional ethics in the healthcare industry, prompting calls for stricter oversight to prevent such incidents in the future.
