Trio fined RM10,800 for assisting in disposing of stolen items

Kota Kinabalu: Three men were fined a total of RM10,800 by the Magistrate’s Court here for assisting in disposing of stolen items.

John Ng, 23, Azizol Madun, 26, and Md Rozaimi Madun, 25, pleaded guilty before Magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun to disposing of the items comprising 17 boxes of menthol, 17 boxes of bearing, two boxes of ignition oil, four bottles of engine oil belonging to one Teo Boon Kiat by selling them to one Yong Ken Kong.

The trio committed the offence at 3pm on April 3 at VTS Capital Sdn Bhd at WK Commercial Centre, Jalan Bundusan Penampang.

Ng was fined RM3,800 or 20 months in jail while Azizol and Rozaimi were each fined RM3,500 or 15 months’ jail.

They were charged under Section 414 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of up to seven years or fine or both, on conviction.

The court heard from the prosecution that the three were Teo’s workers at the said premises and had committed the offence.

Meanwhile, Yong Ken Kong, 37, was fined RM3,500 or 15 months in jail for having the said stolen items.

Yong admitted to committing the offence at the same place and same time.

The charge under Section 411 of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to five years or fine or both, on conviction.
