MANILA, Philippines — Tropical Cyclone Ada could weaken into a low pressure area (LPA) as it moves east-southeastward over the Philippine Sea, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said on Monday.
Weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio said the tropical depression has been forecast to move eastward to east-southeastward from Tuesday evening until Wednesday.
“Continuous dry air entrainment (movement) from the northeast monsoon locally known as ‘amihan’ is expected to result in gradual weakening of Ada,” Aurelio said in a 5 p.m. briefing.
“It may be downgraded into an LPA by Wednesday, although earlier weakening remains possible,” he added.
Estimated 465 kilometers east of Casiguran, Aurora, “Ada” is moving slowly while packing maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 70 kph, the weather agency said.
