MetMalaysia issues advisory for tropical storm near Philippines, moving northwest at 20 km/h but not expected to significantly affect Malaysia.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a Tropical Storm Advisory.

The storm, designated NOKAE, was detected at 5 pm today at latitude 14.4 north and longitude 123.8 east.

This location is approximately 104 kilometres northeast of Naga City in the Philippines.

MetMalaysia’s National Weather and Earthquake Operations Centre stated the storm is moving northwest at 20 kilometres per hour.

It has maximum sustained wind speeds of 74 kilometres per hour.

The storm is currently about 1,126 kilometres northeast of Pitas, Sabah.

According to MetMalaysia, the situation is not expected to have a significant impact on Malaysia.
