Troy Deeney believes Marcus Rashford received a harsh reality check after his move to Barcelona.
The former Premier League striker suggested that life at the Spanish giants is very different from the environment Rashford experienced earlier in his career.
According to Deeney, the expectations at Barcelona leave no room for reputation alone.

Troy Deeney says Barcelona delivered Marcus Rashford a reality check
The Sun highlighted Deeney’s view that Rashford quickly learned how demanding the Barcelona environment can be.
“Walking away from a club where he was a huge figure, the message at Barcelona will have been stark: ‘We don’t give a f___ about Marcus Rashford, we had Lionel Messi here not long ago,'” Deeney said.
He added: “They don’t care what he thinks or what he wears or does – he is there to prove himself worthy of playing for that club.”
Deeney’s point was that Barcelona’s history of legendary players sets a very high bar for anyone arriving at the club.
With icons like Messi having defined the modern era at Camp Nou, new signings are expected to earn their place rather than rely on past achievements. That environment, Deeney suggested, forces players to immediately prove their value.

Deeney also believes the club’s culture leaves players with a simple choice about how they approach the challenge.
“It shows you cannot have it your own way… You bend to Barcelona or you don’t play. Barcelona have now laid out to Rashford that ‘this is how we do things around here’.
“If you fall in line, the rewards will come– you’ll play for Barcelona, score goals and go to the World Cup with England,” Deeney concluded.
For Deeney, adapting to those expectations is part of what makes Barcelona one of football’s most demanding clubs.
Players who succeed there usually embrace the structure and pressure that comes with representing the Catalan side. Rashford’s challenge now, in Deeney’s view, is to prove he can thrive under those conditions.
