It’s never easy to get your achievements recognised worldwide. From young singer Iman Troye to veteran singer Dato Siti Nurhaliza, over the years, only a few lucky (and talented) Malaysians have ever made it onto the billboard in New York Times Square.
This time, another Malaysian has made it onto the famous billboard, and he’s the one and only Lee Zii Jia, our very own badminton player. His image on the billboard was posted on VICTOR‘s Facebook page today (March 9), a Taiwanese manufacturer of sporting equipment.
Lee Zii Jia is not the only athlete who made it there.
In conjunction with VICTOR’s 55th anniversary, multiple VICTOR athletes “landed” on the billboard, which include,
- Tai Tzu Ying
- Hendra Setiawan/Mohammad Ahsan
- Lee Zii Jia
- Anders Antonsen
- Apriyani Rahayu/Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti
In their Instagram post, VICTOR said that the staging in NY Times Square is more than just celebrating their 55th anniversary.
“It is also intended to promote the sport of badminton worldwide.”
According to a report by New Straits Times, Lee Zii Jia has signed a 7-year deal with VICTOR worth RM12 million.
VICTOR’s post has received a lot of praise from fans and supporters of different countries, who extended their congratulations to the athletes from their respective countries. The post has gone viral on social media, and of course, many proud Malaysians couldn’t miss the opportunity to congratulate Lee Zii Jia.
“I’m not Malaysian, but I’m a fan of Lee Zii Jia.”
“Congratulations LZJ for being chosen.”
“Hopefully, LZJ will win the gold medal in 2024’s Olympics.”
“Coachless, but made it to the billboard. The best!”
“LZJ is truly a megastar for the world’s badminton arena. Most of the players from around the world respect him, and he’s not just a regular badminton player who made it to the billboard. Congratulations LZJ!”
