With less than a week to go in the US presidential election race, Kamala Harris and Donald Trump are making their final pitches to voters, with both appearing in battleground North Carolina on Wednesday.

The Democratic presidential nominee has been forced to respond to Joe Biden inadvertently whipping up a conservative media storm by seemingly calling Trump’s supporters “garbage” in response to comedian Tony Hinchcliffe’s already-notorious Madison Square Garden joke about Puerto Rico.

Harris told reporters on Wednesday that she “strongly” disagrees with any criticism of the public based on their voting intentions.

Elsewhere, at a rally in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, Trump also addressed the president’s comments.

“Last night, Joe Biden finally said what he and Kamala really think of our supporters,” he said. “He called them garbage and they mean it... even though, without question, my supporters are far higher quality than Crooked Joe or Lyin’ Kamala.”

He added: “My response to Joe and Kamla is very simple: You can’t lead America if you don’t love Americans, you just can’t.”

On Tuesday, Harris delivered her “closing argument” in Washington DC, speaking on the very same spot from which Trump told his supporters to “fight like hell” on January 6, 2021.

Nicky Jam takes back Trump endorsement after Hinchcliffe’s Puerto Rico comments

20:20

Mike Bedigan

Puerto Rican-Dominican artist, Nicky Jam, has “renounced” his endorsement of Donald Trump, following the continuing fallout over remarks made by comedian Tony Hinchcliffe at a recent rally at Madison Square Garden in New York.

In a video posted in Spanish on social media, the artist – real name Nick Rivera Caminero – said he had initially supported Trump because of the effects the poor US economy was having on immigrants.

“The reason that I supported Donald Trump is because I thought he would be better on the economy in the US where a lot of Latinos live – myself included,” he said. “There are a lot of immigrants who are suffering because of the economy and as a businessman I thought this was the best movement.”

“Never in my life did I think that just one month later a comedian would show up and criticize my country, and speak poorly of my country. And for that, I revoke any support for Donald Trump.”

Caminero backed Trump at a rally in Vegas last month. The former president accidentally misgendered the artist while touting the endorsement, saying that he loved “her” music.

Rudy Giuliani bumbles through hearing with sex assault accuser that ends with personal attacks and a mute button

20:10

Kelly Rissman

Rudy Giuliani’s sexual assault case hearing spiraled into chaos for two hours that ended with the former New York City mayor being muted by the judge.

The first oral arguments in the civil suit, brought by accuser Noelle Dunphy, unfolded on Wednesday after a series of delays in the case that was first filed in early 2023. Dunphy, who claims to be his former employee, is accusing Giuliani of wide-ranging misconduct, including sexual harassment, assault, battery and a hostile work environment. The hearing was streamed online and journalists were allowed to watch.

The remote hearing was plagued by technical difficulties, high-pitched acoustic feedback and confusion. At one point, Lev Parnas, a Ukrainian businessman and former Giuliani associate-turned-critic, tried to be admitted to the virtual meeting — a move that the ex-mayor vocally objected to. The judge didn’t let Parnas in. Justin Kelton, Dunphy’s lawyer, said he was a potential witness in the case.

Trump says the US is ‘an occupied country'

18:55

Mike Bedigan

In North Carolina, while discussing immigration, Donald Trump once again claimed that the US was “an occupied country” and that Election Day would mark the country’s “liberation.”

“But it will soon be an occupied country no longer - we will not let this happen,” he said.

“November 5, 2024 will be liberation day in America... on day one I will launch the largest deportation program in American history... I will rescue every city and town that has been invaded and conquered.”

Discussing his plan on taxation for older people, Donald Trump jokingly admitted he had a “conflict of interest.”

The former president, who is 78, told his supporters: “Our seniors they have a very fixed income some of them, I’m a senior too.”

“Some people would say he is a conflict of interest, these fakers back there [the media] [say] ‘he has a conflict of interest, he’s a senior, he’s gonna give himself a big tax break.’”

Trump notes major publications’ lack of endorsement

18:15

Mike Bedigan

Donald Trump noted the lack of endorsement for the Democrats from major publications including The Washington Post and The Los Angeles Times, offering his own reason for why that was.

“Have noticed that the Washington Post and the Los Angeles Times are not endorsing anyone – you know what they’re really saying? Because they only endorse Democrats,” he said.

“They’re saying this Democrat is no good. And they think I’m doing a great job they just don’t want to say it.”

Trump also noted his recent endorsement from NASA hero Buzz Alrin, the second man on the moon, who he described as as “great astronaut.” “Isn’t that nice? So thankyou Buzz Aldrin... and I like him too, I’ve always admired him.”

Trump tells supporters that he is 'not Hitler’

18:05

Mike Bedigan

At his rally in North Carolina, Trump once again reminded his supporters that he was “not Hitler.”

The former president came under fire following reports he had once made comments praising the German dictator. Comparisons were also drawn between his recent rally in New York’s Madison Square Garden, the site of a Nazi rally in 1939.

“They’ve called me Hitler,” Trump said. “Many years ago I had a father, he was a great guy, a strong guy... he always used to tell me ‘never use the word Nazi, never use the word Hitler.

“Now we’re called Nazis and I’m called Hitler, I’m not Hitler!”

Trump responds to Biden calling his ‘high quality’ supporters ‘garbage'

17:55

Mike Bedigan

Donald Trump addressed remarks made by Joe Biden in which the president appeared to refer to Trump supporters at “garbage.”

The former president said his fans were “far higher quality” than those of the Democrats.

“This week Kamala Harris has been comparing her political opponents to the evil mass murderers in history and now, on a call for her campaign last night, Joe Biden finally said what he and Kamala really think of our supporters,” he said.

“He called them garbage and they mean it... even though, without question, my supporters are far higher quality than Crooke Joe or Lyin Kamala.”

He added: “My response to Joe and Kamla is very simple: You can’t lead america if you don’t love Americans, you just cant. And you can’t be president if you hate the American people...

“They’ve treated you like garbage, the truth is they’ve treated our whole country like garbage whether they’ve meant to or not.”

Trump calls Harris ‘low-IQ individual’ but claims he is ‘very nice’ to her

17:45

Mike Bedigan

Moments after Kamala Harris finished her remarks, Donald Trump began his own rally in North Carolina, in Rocky Mount.

The former president claimed that he was “very nice” to the Democrats, moments after referring to his Democratic rival as a “low-IQ individual.”

“I will bring back a thing called The American Dream, isn’t that nice? Because we hadn’t had that in a long time,” he said.

“Our country will be bigger, better, bolder, richer, safer, and strongner than ever before.”

He continued: “Kamala Harris, a low-IQ individual, is running a campaign of hate, anger and retribution. See I’m very nice to them, they’re not very nice to me.”

Harris’ plans were “the plans of a simpleton” he later added.

Trump later laughed when an audience member shouted that Harris was “an idiot” but joked “I didn’t say it... In fact, sir I’d like to admonish you that way the press can’t get me.”

Harris says will people who disagree with her a ‘seat at the table’

17:20

Mike Bedigan

Kamala Harris told supporters in North Carolina that, unlike her Republican rival, she would work with those who have conflicting views.

“Unlike Donald Trump, I don’t believe that people who disagree with me are the enemy,” she said. “He wants to put them in jail. I’ll give them a seat at the table.”

She added: “We are here together because we love our country, and when you love something you fight for it.”

Harris repeats promise to ‘turn the page’ on Donald Trump

17:10

Mike Bedigan

At a rally in Raleigh, North Carolina, Kamala Harris repeated her promise to “turn the page” on Donald Trump.

After taking to the stage, the vice president went back over many of the points made in her “closing argument speech” in Washington DC on Tuesday night.

She added it was time to “turn the page on a decade of Donald Trump, who has been trying to keep us divided and afraid of each other.” “That is not who we are,” Harris said.

“It is time for a new chapter where we stop with the pointing fingers at each other – let us lock arms with each other... it is time for a new generation of leadership in America.”

Similar to her DC speech, she said that Trump was “obsessed with revenge” and after “unchecked power.”

Supreme Court allows Virginia to resume voter roll purge

16:40

Mike Bedigan

The US Supreme Court’s conservative majority moved on Wednesday to allow Virginia to resume its purge of voter registrations that the state says is aimed at stopping people who are not American citizens from voting.

The high court, over the dissents of its three liberal justices, granted an emergency appeal from Virginia’s Republican administration led by Governor Glenn Youngkin.

The court provided no reason for its action, which is typical in emergency appeals.

The justices acted on Virginia’s appeal after a federal judge found that the state illegally purged more than 1,600 voter registrations in the past two months.

A federal appeals court had previously allowed the judge’s order to remain in effect.

Such voting is rare in American elections, but the spectre of immigrants voting illegally has been a main part of the political messaging this year from Trump and other Republicans.

Trump campaign sues over ‘voter suppression’ in Pennsylvania

16:10

The Republican ticket has announced it is suing Bucks County in the crucial swing state, alleging its officials have been “turning away voters” queuing outside election offices hoping to apply for mail-in ballots before they close at 5pm, which, the campaign points out, would be against the law if true.

“Yesterday, Kamala delivered a speech of falsehoods in Washington, DC claiming Republicans are a threat to democracy – while her allies in battleground Pennsylvania are actively turning away voters,” the Trump-Vance say in their email.

“This is against the law. This is voter suppression from the left. We will fight for every legal vote in Pennsylvania. Go vote, and stay in line!”

“The only garbage I see floating out there is his supporters – his – his demonization of Latinos is unconscionable, and it’s un-American,” the president told Latino voters on a Zoom call on Tuesday.

Harris told reporters on Wednesday that she “strongly” disagrees with any criticism of the public based on their voting intentions.

“You’ve heard my speech last night and continuously throughout my career,” she said.

“I believe that the work I do is about representing all the people, whether they support me or not, and as president of the United States, I will be a president for all Americans, whether you vote for me or not.”

Seven states will decide the election. They’re all too close to call

14:50

Joe Sommerlad

With just one week until the election, we are no closer to knowing whether Trump or Harris will be the next president of the United States.

But that question will ultimately be answered by voters in a handful of battleground states, whose 93 electoral college votes will push either candidate over the line.

In each of these seven states — Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin — neither Harris nor Trump has established a secure lead, with polling averages showing that the candidates are within two points of each other.

This means that nearly 100 Electoral College votes are ripe for the taking and will not be secure until next week.

Republicans will ‘go big’ in Trump’s first 100 days and ‘take a blowtorch’ to federal agencies, says Speaker Johnson

14:10

Joe Sommerlad

In a video obtained by NBC News, House Speaker Mike Johnson can be seen addressing an event in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, on Monday promising that his side will “take a blowtorch” to federal agencies in the first 100 days of a Donald Trump presidency.

“Healthcare reform’s going to be a big part of the agenda,” Johnson tells his audience.

“When I say we’re going to have a very aggressive first 100 days agenda, we got a lot of things still on the table.”

Asked if that would mean no Obamacare, Johnson rolled his eyes and answered: “No Obamacare. The ACA is so deeply ingrained, we need massive reform to make this work, and we got a lot of ideas on how to do that.”

This is what Harris-Walz spokesperson Sarafina Chitika had to say in response:

“Healthcare is on the ballot this November. Speaker Mike Johnson is making it clear – if Donald Trump wins, he and his Project 2025 allies in Congress will make sure there is ‘no Obamacare.’

“That means higher healthcare costs for millions of families and ripping away protections from Americans with pre-existing conditions like diabetes, asthma, or cancer.

“Voters see Trump’s ‘concepts of a plan’ for what they are: Ending the Affordable Care Act, jacking up prices, and leaving millions of Americans without the care they need.”

Tim Walz tells Good Morning America: ‘We’re winning this thing’

Harris’s running mate was on the breakfast show a little while ago talking to George Stephanopoulos and said of her Ellipse speech last night: “The vice president’s rhetoric is the rhetoric that the president of the United States gives. One that understands we’re all in this together. One that welcomes robust debate about the issues.”

Asked about Joe Biden’s “garbage” blunder, Walz said: “The president has clarified his remarks. Let’s be very clear, the vice president and I have made it absolutely clear that we want everyone as a part of this. Donald Trump’s divisive rhetoric is what needs to end.”

On their ticket’s supposed struggle to attract male voters, he said: “I think folks are still undecided. We go again back to those kitchen table issues. Men care about the lives of the women they love in their lives and they do care about the issue of reproductive care.

“They also want to make sure manufacturing jobs are coming back to Michigan. They want to make sure their kids are safe in schools from gun violence. Men are no different than women in that they want to live safe and secure lives. They want an opportunity to thrive.”

Asked how optimistic he was about next Tuesday, Walz declared: “We’re winning this thing... There’s energy out there. People are ready.

“There will be a clear result. My biggest concern is that Donald Trump has brought pessimism to folks. That folks don’t believe that their votes don’t matter. Those votes do matter.”

‘Nostradamus’ of presidential races reveals why there’s ‘more election anxiety this year than ever’ before

Allan Lichtman, the American political historian is known as the “Nostradamus” of elections because he has successfully predicted the last nine out of 10 presidential races since 1984, has revealed why he believes there is “more election anxiety this year” than ever before.

In a new episode on his YouTube channel, marking one week to go until voters elect either Kamala Harris or Donald Trump as the next president, Lichtman spoke of the “election anxiety” this time around.

“There was more election anxiety this year than I’ve ever seen, and I go back to Kennedy – Nixon in 1960,” Lichtman said.

“I’ve never seen this kind of election anxiety,” he added.

“A lot of people believe the future of the country is on the line here, and the democracy of America could be a thing of the past. I don’t think that’s an illegitimate fear.

“I’m so worried about the future of our election, you know, I think I’ve said this before – democracy is precious but like all precious things, it can be destroyed.”

  • Donald Trump will be in Rocky Mount in the same state and then Green Bay, Wisconsin, with retired NFL quarterback Brett Favre joining him for the latter event.

Trump tries to brush off racist Puerto Rico joke in latest Sean Hannity interview

The Republican nominee’s other big offering yesterday was an exclusive interview with Hannity on Fox News, apparently recorded in a dank dungeon either to set the mood for Halloween or to conceal Trump badly overdoing the bronzer earlier in the day, the candidate looking at his most beaming orange on stage in Pennsylvania.

Our man claimed to know nothing about the Hinchcliffe controversy (as he always does whenever a crony gets in trouble), said that people from Puerto Rico routinely hug and kiss him in the street and unwisely recalled his post-hurricane visit to the territory in October 2017 when he made light of the locals’ suffering by tossing packets of paper towels around like basketballs.
