Trump claims Tehran ‘want to make a deal’ after US strikes 90 sites across Iran

  • The US military launched a second night of extensive strikes across Iran, hitting approximately 90 sites primarily along its southern coast, with the stated aim of protecting commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and degrading Tehran's ability to target vessels.
  • Donald Trump claimed that Iran had contacted Washington and “they want to make a deal so badly”, despite his earlier declaration that the ceasefire was “over” and talks were a “waste of time”, expressing doubt about Iran's trustworthiness.
  • Iranian media reported at least three fatalities, including a firefighter, and significant power outages in coastal areas such as Chabahar, where a maritime traffic control tower was also struck.
  • The escalation in military action and ongoing diplomatic uncertainty resulted in a 1 per cent increase in oil prices and a notable decrease in commercial vessel movement through the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz.
  • Iran's foreign ministry criticised Nato secretary general Mark Rutte for his support of the US strikes, accusing European nations of complicity in 'unprovoked aggression' by facilitating the military operations from their bases.
