US President Donald Trump has called for Iran and Israel to "immediately" halt renewed mutual attacks in a post on his Truth Social network published on Monday.
"Israel and Iran must immediately stop 'shooting.' President DONALD J. TRUMP," read the post.
His demand comes after Iran attacked Israel on Sunday evening and Israel retaliated on Monday.
It also follows a phone interview with the Financial Times in which Trump said that he - and not Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu - is calling the shots in the Middle East conflict.
"I call all the shots. He doesn't call the shots," the US president was quoted as saying, referring to the Israeli prime minister.
Trump reportedly also urged Netanyahu not to retaliate while appealing to Iran to return to the negotiating table and conclude an agreement, according to US broadcaster Fox News.
Trump told the Financial Times he was confident that an agreement would be reached despite the latest escalation and that the fresh attacks would not affect the deal.
Netanyahu would also have "no choice" but to accept an agreement negotiated by the US with Iran, Trump said.
