US President Donald Trump announces destruction of Iran’s tallest bridge, killing eight and wounding 95 in a major escalation of the five-week war.

WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump announced the destruction of Iran’s tallest bridge on Thursday.

The strike killed eight people and wounded 95 others, according to Iranian state media.

Trump posted footage on social media of smoke rising from the B1 bridge in Karaj, warning of further attacks.

“The biggest bridge in Iran comes tumbling down, never to be used again – Much more to follow!” he said.

He demanded Iran make a deal to end the five-week war, stating “IT IS TIME FOR IRAN TO MAKE A DEAL BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE”. The threat followed a speech where he vowed to bomb Iran “back to the Stone Ages”.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi condemned the strike on the civilian structure. “Striking civilian structures, including unfinished bridges, will not compel Iranians to surrender,” he posted on X.

He added that such actions only convey “the defeat and moral collapse of an enemy in disarray”. Iranian state television reported the bridge was hit by two separate US-Israeli strikes.

The second attack occurred as emergency teams were deployed to help victims of the first. The B1 bridge in Alborz province was still under construction and is the tallest in the Middle East.

It features a 447-foot column and is located about 20 miles southwest of Tehran. Trump argued the war launched with Israel on February 28 was nearly over.

He threatened in a prime-time address to bomb Iran “extremely hard” if it did not bow to his demands. “Over the next two to three weeks, we are going to bring them back to the Stone Ages, where they belong,” he said.
