- The two bronze statues, named 'Sacrifice' and 'Valor,' have been covered in 23.75-karat gold leaf, following previous renovations in the 1970s, 1984, and 2005.
- This restoration project, part of the U.S. Department of the Interior's 'auramaxxing' effort for the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, cost over $5.1 million and was completed by The Gilders’ Studio.
- Trump had claimed the statues would be fully regilded by July 3, and this effort is consistent with his repeated attempts to beautify parts of Washington, D.C. during his second presidency.
- Past beautification initiatives include the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, which later faced issues, and a proposed 250-foot ceremonial arch near Memorial Circle.
