- President Donald Trump demanded that Alaska alter its election ballot following reports that Democrats recruited a man named Dan Sullivan to run against incumbent Republican Senator Dan S. Sullivan. According to a report by The New York Times, Democratic operatives conducted a covert campaign to place the namesake retired teacher on the ballot as an unaffiliated candidate to confuse voters.
- “It has just been determined that the Democrats in Alaska illegally searched for, and recruited, a man named Dan Sullivan to run against our distinguished Republican Senator, Dan Sullivan, in order to defraud, confuse, and obfuscate the Election, thereby taking votes away from the REAL Senator, Dan Sullivan,” Trump wrote on Truth Social Wednesday.
- He added that Democratic candidate Mary Peltola “should suffer the Legal and Political consequences for what she has done, A FRAUD ON THE AMERICAN PUBLIC, and Dan Sullivan should be allowed to run without either Mary Peltola or FAKE Dan Sullivan on the Ballot.”
- The Justice Department filed a federal lawsuit seeking to block Alaska from certifying a victory for Democratic candidate Mary Peltola if Dan J. Sullivan remains on the ballot.
- Mary Peltola denied personal involvement in the recruitment effort and denounced the federal lawsuit as flagrant political interference. The Alaska Supreme Court previously rejected Republican attempts to remove Dan J. Sullivan from the ballot ahead of the highly contested Senate race.
