Trump halts attacks on Iran to resume negotiations

  • The United States and Iran paused their attacks for a second consecutive day on Sunday, with US ambassador Mike Waltz telling Fox News that Donald Trump was "giving talks some space; he's giving it a little bit of room".
  • Oil prices saw a drop, with Brent crude falling by around 5 per cent, as hopes for a diplomatic resolution to the conflict emerged.
  • An oil tanker reportedly exploded after hitting a mine in the Strait of Hormuz, according to Iran's state-affiliated Tasnim news agency.
  • Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu told Fox News he "fully" backs Donald Trump's efforts to weaken Iran, adding that if Iran again attacks Israel, directly or with armed proxies, "it will make a terrible mistake".
  • The Pentagon acknowledged an additional 142 service members wounded in the conflict, while four fatalities were restored on the Defence Casualty Analysis System.
