Trump official claims Americans should drive to red states for cheaper gas

A Trump official told drivers to fill up their gas tanks in "red states," claiming that gas prices there are 53 cents cheaper per gallon than in "blue states."

During an appearance on Fox News, Interior Secretary Doug Burgum was asked about "hidden gems" in the US's parks.

He encouraged the public to visit national parks, saying: "Walk for an hour, and you’re going to find yourself in a spot where you can reflect on the amazing abundance of resources that we have in this country."

Burgum went on to claim that gas prices were 53 cents cheaper per gallon in "red states" compared to "blue states."

"Gas up in a red state. On average nationally right now this weekend it’s 53 cents cheaper per gallon to fill up your car in a red state than it is in a blue state," he stated.

According to the American Automobile Association, the national gas price average per gallon is $3.86 as of Monday (29 June). Some states, such as California, saw prices of more than $5 per gallon.
