US President Donald Trump has announced that he will attend the G7 summit in France in mid-June.

Trump will travel to France immediately after a festival featuring martial arts cage fights at the White House to mark his 80th birthday on June 14, he wrote on his Truth Social platform on Wednesday.

"I'll be going to the G7, in France, immediately following what will be one of the Most Entertaining Nights in American History, the UFC World Championship Fights on the South Lawn of the White House," Trump wrote.

The group of leading democratic economic powers, comprising the United States, Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Italy, Canada and Japan, as well as the European Union, will meet in the French spa town of Évian on Lake Geneva from June 15 to 17.

Canada hosted the G7 summit last year.
