President Donald Trump believes that cumulative inflation under his second term will be the lowest of the past six administrations – despite persistently high prices that his administration continues to struggle with.
The president posted an infographic on Truth Social Sunday showing cumulative inflation rates for each of the last six administrations, measuring the total percentage change in consumer prices over four years under each president.
At the top is former President Joe Biden, who saw a cumulative inflation rate of 21.20 percent over the four years he was in office.
At the bottom of the chart sits Trump’s second administration with a 4.71 percent inflation rate – however, the data is incomplete because Trump is only 18 months into office. The president pointed that out in a separate Truth Social post.
When examining cumulative inflation at the 18-month mark of each presidential term, Trump’s second term has the fourth-highest inflation rate.
Mediaite was the first to report on the Truth Social post.
Though Trump ran on a platform to lower everyday costs, in part by lowering inflation, the president has struggled to maintain that promise because his war with Iran has pushed consumer prices up.
The ongoing conflict in the Middle East has disrupted global trade and shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, causing gas and oil prices to rise. As of August 10, Americans are paying, on average, $4 per gallon of regular gasoline.
Between June 2025 and June 2026, consumer prices rose 3.5 percent overall.
Rising costs have reflected poorly on the Trump administration.
In a July Fox News poll of 1,003 people, just 24 percent said they approved of Trump’s handling of the economy.

Just 33 percent of people said they felt they were “living comfortably” in a recent Marquette Law School poll – a 7 percentage point decrease from the number of people who said they were living comfortably in January.
Yet, Trump has consistently tried to insist that he’s bringing costs down.
While delivering remarks in Michigan last month, the president said that “inflation dropped by the largest amount in more than six years, because we’re doing it right”
“They tried to blame high prices on me,” Trump told rally-goers.
While Trump is correct that inflation dropped quickly in June, his statement excludes some key context.
The decrease in inflation in June came after months of increases largely attributed to higher oil and gas prices due to the Iran war. The U.S. and Iran were following a ceasefire agreement in June – which subsequently fell apart in July.
Inflation was also still higher in June 2026 than it was at the start of Trump’s second term in January 2025.
The infographic, posted by the president, appears to have originated from an Instagram account called Yung Geeski.
Lara Trump, the president’s daughter-in-law, re-posted the infographic on Instagram earlier Sunday, calling it a “great chart” and including the caveat that the information was incomplete for Trump’s second term.
