President Donald Trump may have found his next White House press secretary during a Fox News interview.
In a one-on-one interview Sunday with Fox News correspondent Alexis McAdams, Trump suggested the reporter could replace Karoline Leavitt, who announced last week that she would leave the post to spend more time with her children.
“Is Karoline Leavitt replaceable?” McAdams asked the president. “No, she’s not,” Trump replied. “She’s standing right over there, and she’s done a great job.”
Trump said Leavitt, who recently returned from maternity leave following the birth of her second child, was more devoted to her family than to the White House.
“She likes her children more than she likes Trump. I’m very concerned about that,” he said.
McAdams then asked whether Trump had a replacement in mind.
“You,” Trump responded, looking directly at the reporter. “How about you?”
“She could do the job,” he continued. “What do you think, Karoline? I like it. I’ve always liked you. That’s why I’m doing this. I don’t do this that often.”
McAdams joined Fox News in 2021 and is based in New York City.
Throughout his second term in office, Trump has tapped several Fox News personalities to join the administration, including Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth and U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro.

Trump announced on August 12 that Leavitt — who became the youngest White House press secretary in history when she took the role at age 27 in January 2025 — would depart at the end of the month.
“Our wonderful White House Press Secretary, and one of my most trusted aides, Karoline Leavitt, will be departing her role at the end of the month so she can spend more time with her beautiful young children and family, a decision I totally understand and respect,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
He added that Leavitt would continue to serve as an outside advisor.
In a social media post of her own, Leavitt said serving under Trump had been “the honor and adventure of a lifetime.”
“The truth is since returning to the White House after the birth of my daughter, I have felt in my heart that I cannot be the best mom my two young children deserve while devoting the constant time, energy, and attention required of the White House Press Secretary,” she added.
Trump was blindsided by Leavitt’s sudden decision to exit the White House, and he is in no rush to name a replacement, a White House official previously told The Independent.
A rotating group of administration officials – such as Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Vice President JD Vance — is expected to handle briefings in the meantime.
