Donald Trump has weighed in on the death of a Russian laboratory worker who was reportedly exposed to the highly contagious pneumonic plague, describing it as "a rough disease" that humanity "used to be able to control".
Darya Shipilova, a 28-year-old employee at the Anti-Plague Research Institute in Shelekhov, Siberia, died last week after accidentally breaking a test tube containing the pathogen, local media have reported.
Hundreds of people have since been placed under strict medical observation, according to the independent Russian outlet Baikal People.
Trump claimed microbes had "gotten stronger like an army", adding that "we will help anybody that has that kind of a problem". Plague remains treatable with antibiotics.
